The Anaheim Jr. Ducks and Lady Ducks again were well represented on California Rubber Magazine’s All-California NCAA teams, which were published this week.

A total of 11 former Lady Ducks and four Jr. Ducks made the third annual squads, which are selected by California Rubber senior writer Chris Bayee after consultation with coaches and scouts.

The group included five players who have made the teams all three years and two of the three players of the year.

The women’s team is headlined by two-time player of the year Annie Pankowski. The University of Wisconsin junior forward helped the Badgers reach the NCAA title game with a 25-goal, 55-point campaign. Her goal total was the second most in Division I, and her point total was the sixth most.

Other three-year members of the team included senior forwards Bridget Baker and Megan Whiddon and junior goaltender Justine Silva. Baker finished her career among the top 10 in several categories at Vermont and Whiddon scored a career-high 23 points for Mercyhurst. Silva tied her career high with 16 wins and had four shutouts as well as a 1.87 goals-against average.

Defensemen Megan Crandell (Plattsburgh) and Kara Drexler (Yale) and forward Justine Reyes (St. Lawrence) made the team for the second season in a row.

Newcomers included goaltender Jacqueline Audet (Lake Forest), defensemen Kendra Farole (RPI) and Leila Kilduff (Minnesota State) and forward Nicole Dunbar (New Hampshire).

The men’s team included co-player of the year Austin Ortega, who tied the NCAA career record for game-winning goals (23) during a stellar career at Nebraska-Omaha. Ortega, who helped the Mavericks reach the Frozen Four two seasons ago, scored a career-high 20 goals and 47 points and finished second in school history with 70 goals and fourth with 139 points.

Ortega made the team for the third season in a row.  He is playing for the Anaheim Ducks’ American Hockey League affiliate under an amateur tryout agreement.

Forward Brett Gervais, who was an assistant captain at Clarkson, made the squad for the second year in a row. Merrimack goaltender Collin Delia, a finalist for the Hockey Humanitarian Award, and Northern Michigan forward Troy Loggins made their first appearances.
