Offense and Goaltending lead the way for the Jr. Ducks

Leonardo Turf recorded a hat trick in the final game and Conrad Cauthen allowed just one goal as the Jr. Ducks 12A squad took the Peewee A division at the “Fun in the Sun” tournament in San Diego over Labor Day weekend.

Led by coaches Sean Birkle and Laddy Kohn, the Jr. Ducks rolled through their five games, outscoring their opponents 38-4 in the four-day tournament.

Turf tallied a hat trick in the opening game on Friday along with teammate Charlie Marcia, as the Jr. Ducks shutout the Goldrush, 8-0. Game two saw Zachary Donia, Anders Gregowske and Kevin Wang all score twice in a 12-0 win over the Bay Harbor Red Wings. Barrett Thacker recorded both shutouts in net for the Jr. Ducks.

Game three was a 4-1 win over the California Wave, with Marcia grabbing two goals and an assist. Six different goal scorers got on the board in a 7-2 win over the Jr. Kings in the semifinal, which set up a rematch with the Wave in the title game.

The Jr. Ducks jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period when Turf scored 2:55 in, and Marcia made it 4-0 early in the second. Never looking back, the Jr. Ducks added three more in the third period to clinch a 7-1 win in the championship game.
