Jr. Ducks pitch shutout in Championship Game

Labor Day turned out to be a great holiday for the Jr. Ducks 10UBB1 team as they won the “Summer Escape” tournament at Anaheim ICE on Monday. Coaches Hayden Maxwell and Nico Santoro led the team to an impressive showing in their own backyard.

The Jr. Ducks recorded a shutout over the California Heat in the championship game, 2-0, behind a stellar performance by goaltender Evan Goodwyn, who stopped all 11 shots he faced in the title-clinching showdown.

The tournament got off to a roaring start for the 10UBB1 team, as they took down the Jr. Kings, 4-2, in the opening round robin game.

The second game of round robin play tested the Jr. Ducks will, as they fought to a tie with the Jr. Firebirds 10UA team, 4-4. The Jr. Ducks outshot the Jr. Firebirds, 19-13.

An 8-1 win over the California Wave capped off round robin play for the Jr. Ducks, with Mason Russell posting a four-goal explosion.

In the semifinal round, the Jr. Ducks battled with in-county rivals OCHC 10UA. Liam Glenn recorded two goals and an assist in the 5-3 victory, advancing the Jr. Ducks to Monday’s championship game.
