Head Coach Carlos Rich and his team of Jr. Ducks grabbed the 8UB crown at the “Summer Escape” tournament at The Rinks – Anaheim ICE over Labor Day weekend. The Jr. Ducks 8UB-2 took down the rival Jr. Kings in the championship game, 5-1, leaving no doubt in their Summer finale.
The Jr. Ducks began the tournament with a 2-1 record on the opening day on Friday, including a pair of 8-0 wins over the Ventura Mariners and Santa Barbara Ice Hawks. Spencer Hayashi led the way in the first game for the Jr. Ducks, scoring two goals.
Saturday saw the Jr. Ducks run the table with a perfect 3-0 day, with wins over the Jr. Ducks 8UB-3, California Wave and Santa Barbara Ice Hawks.
The penultimate day of the tournament proved to be the most challenging for the Jr. Ducks. The day was highlighted by a 2-0 win over Empire Hockey Club, setting the stage for a semifinal showdown with OCHC.
The Jr. Ducks coasted to a 5-0 victory in their semifinal game behind goaltender Liam Gilbo on Monday afternoon.
The Jr. Ducks 8UB-2 team features Benn Bennett, Liam Bergman, Kyle Chong, Liam Gilbo, Mateo Gomez, Spencer Hayashi, Hudson Hernandez, Logan Hurtado, and Isaac Miszti.
