Lady Ducks 16U AAA Team Goes 2-1 at USA Hockey Nationals

The Lady Ducks 16U AAA team turned in a strong performance at the USA Hockey Nationals at Wesley Chapel, Fla.

The LDs went 2-1 in round-robin play, narrowly missing a quarterfinal berth. 

Emily Olsthoorn led the 16s with five points and four goals during the tournament. She finished with a hat trick in a 3-2 victory over Florida Alliance on Thursday.

Mackenzie Williams and Rachel Vincent added two points apiece. Vincente scored the winning goal with 8:38 left in overtime of a 3-2 victory over Minnesota Hardware on Tuesday.  Olsthoorn and Williams scored the first two goals in that game. 

Cameron Liu went 2-0 in goal, allowing four goals combined during her two starts.

Three Jr. Ducks teams competed at various sites.

At Plymouth, Mich., the 14U AAA finished with a 6-3 victory over the Saints (N.Y.). Gavin Burcar scored two goals, and Grady Schaefer, Bradley Marchant, Jackson Schaefer and Mason Moreland each added one. Evan Enck made 22 saves. 

The 14s lost close games to quarterfinalist Boston Jr. Eagles and semifinalist Mid Fairfield. 

At Las Vegas, the 18U AAA team lost close games to semifinalist Yale Jr. Bulldogs (5-3) and quarterfinalist Central Massachusetts Penguins (4-3, OT). 

Cohen Krudwig had four assists and Nikita Zozulia had three points, including a goal, during the Jr. Ducks' three games. Eleven players tallied at least a point during the tournament. 

And 10 players registered points for the 18U AA team during three games at Delmont, Penn. The Jr. Ducks were within a goal of quarterfinalist Chesterfield (Mo.) Falcons in the third period of their round-robin matchup. James Sposa scored for the Jr. Ducks in a 4-1 loss. The 18s also faced semifinalist Cleveland Crusaders to start the tournament.
