13 players with Jr. Ducks ties selected in Junior drafts

A total of 13 players with ties to the Jr. Ducks have been selected by Junior hockey teams over the past month.

The group includes defenseman Christian Theberge, who played for the 18U AAA team this past season, and forward Daniel Peate, who was on the 14U AAA squad.

Five of the players were taken in the annual North American Hockey League (NAHL) draft on June 14. They included Theberge, goaltender Aidan Comeau, center Michael Marquez, defenseman Tyler Lee and defenseman Jason Zaccari. 

NAHL Draft

Theberge, a 2005 birth year, went in the fifth round (131st overall) to Anchorage. He had 37 points in 69 games for the 18Us.

Comeau, a 2004, was the first former Jr. Duck taken, going in the third round (96th overall) to defending champion Oklahoma. He played for the Winkler Flyers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League this past season, fashioning a 11-6-3 record with a .929 save percentage and a 2.04 goals-against average.

Marquez, a 2003 who played for both the Jr. Ducks and Orange County Hockey Club, went in the fourth round (110th overall) to Anchorage. He had 46 points (18 goals) in 42 games for the Yarmouth Mariners of the MJAHL. Lee, a 2003 defenseman who had 30 points in 50 games for the Mariners, was selected in the ninth round (283rd overall) by New Jersey. Zaccari, a 2005, went three picks later to Lone Star.

WHL U.S. Priority Draft

Peate was the first of three players with ties to the club picked in the Western Hockey League's U.S. Priority Draft, which selected 2008 birth years.

Peate went in the first round (19th overall) to Saskatoon. He had 58 points (38 goals) in 40 games for the 14Us.

Defenseman Odin Vauhkonen went in the second round (25th overall) to Victoria, while forward Zane Torre was selected 43rd overall by Seattle.

USHL Phase I and II Drafts

Four more players were taken in the United States Hockey League's Phase I and II drafts in May.

Three players went in Phase I, which was for 2007s. Defenseman Clarke Nehmens was first, going in the seventh round (92nd overall) to Omaha. Center Max Silver went two picks later to Waterloo. Lincoln selected goaltender Aaron Sachs in the 10th round (146th overall).

In Phase II, which covered the 2004-06 birth years, left wing Philippe Lalonde was taken by Cedar Rapids in the 13th round (190th overall).
