Longtime Jr. Ducks player Ryan Johnson signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Buffalo Sabres on May 27.

Johnson, who wrapped up a four-year college career at the University of Minnesota at the Frozen Four in April, reported to the Sabres' American Hockey League affiliate in Rochester, N.Y. The Americans are in the AHL Eastern Conference finals. 

The Sabres drafted Johnson, who is the younger son of Jr. Ducks Director of Coaches Craig Johnson, in the first round (31st overall) in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. 

Ryan Johnson capped his NCAA career with an 18-point season to help the Gophers reach their second consecutive Frozen Four. He was an honorable mention All-Big Ten pick this past season and made the Academic All-Big Ten Team three times. 

Winning has been a consistent theme in his hockey career thus far.

He was part of the first Jr. Ducks AAA team to win a bronze medal at the USA Hockey Nationals in 2018. A few weeks earlier, he helped Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League member Santa Margarita Catholic High School win its second national title.

In 2019, he was part of the Sioux Falls Stampede's United States Hockey League Clark Cup championship team and helped Team USA win the World Jr. A Championship.

Halfway through his NCAA career, he teamed up with fellow Jr. Ducks alumni Cam York to help Team USA win the World Junior Championship in 2021.
