Jr. Ducks 16U AAA team reaches quarterfinals at Nationals

The Anaheim Jr. Ducks 16U AAA team reached the quarterfinals at the USA Hockey Youth Nationals at San Jose over the weekend. 

The 16Us were one of five Irvine Ice Foundation teams that earned berths at Nationals. The others were the Jr. Ducks' 18U AAA team, the Lady Ducks' 16U and 14U AAA teams, and Orange County Hockey Club's 14U AA team. 

The 16s bounced back from an opening loss to defeat the Buffalo Saints 4-1 and the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes 3-2 in round-robin play. They lost to Detroit Little Caesars, 4-3, in overtime of the quarterfinals. 

Forward Colin Frank led the Jr. Ducks with three goals at the tournament, while Tyler Kedzo had two. Tanner Henricks, Tyler McGowan and Ty Izadi each had a goal and two assists. Goalie Jack Kavetsky finished with a 2.22 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. 

The 18Us defeated the Rhode Island Saints, 3-2, in their opener. Brady Craik scored two goals at San Jose, while Brock Devlin totaled three assists.

The Lady Ducks competed in Dallas. Annika Stock led the 14Us with three goals and five points. 

OCHC competed in the 3A division at Denver. OC defeated the North Pittsburgh Wildcats, 5-1, in its opener. Tyge Atkinson and Ian Jaksch led the way with three points in the tournament.
