The 2002 birth year was chosen in his final year of eligibility for the NHL Entry Draft.

Former Jr. Ducks forward Zakary Karpa was selected by the New York Rangers in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

Karpa became the 11th player with ties to the club be selected by an NHL team and the fourth since 2018. A 2002 birth year, he was in his third - and final - season of eligibility to be drafted.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound center had 12 points (6 goals) in 33 games during his freshman season at Harvard. He previously spent one season in the United States Hockey League, split between Omaha and Des Moines, after two seasons at the U.S. National Team Development Program.

His twin brother Jakob played for Wenatchee in the British Columbia Hockey League this past season. Their father Dave played parts of 12 seasons in the NHL, including from 1994-98 with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
