Imagine thousands of sets of eyes on you and only a goaltender standing in your way of shootout glory.

The Jr. Gulls 10U A team didn't have to imagine it on Nov. 12. And those goalies? Well, they're better known as teammates and friends.

"Before they took the ice I told the players to go down and make your best move on the big stage," coach Jonah Munholland said. "You could hear the crowd roaring when someone scored or a made a save. Some players have never heard that. ... I hadn't heard that in a while, and it brought back some fond memories."

The 10U A team took center stage during an intermission of the AHL Gulls' game against the Bakersfield Condors with an intrasquad shootout.

"The kids were really looking forward to it," Munholland said. "I'm not sure they knew what they were getting into. They were super happy, but in the locker room beforehand you could see they were a bit nervous.

"Once they were out there and skating around they were fine."

It's part of an ongoing effort between the AHL Gulls and the Jr. Gulls.

"It's awesome to be aligned with the AHL Gulls; that's one way you can grow the game," Munholland added. "The more interaction the better. It fosters growth and gives motivation that it's possible for players here to get to that level.

"When the Condors walked by before we went on the ice, you could see the kids were in awe of the pro's. It got them more excited."

Then the Jr. Gulls went out and made a memory of a lifetime on the Pechanga Arena ice.
