The Anaheim Jr. Ducks are pleased to announce their Tier 1 coaches for the 2020-21 season. All Tier 1 tryouts will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 29-31. Specific dates and times for each age group will be announced in the near future.
The Jr. Ducks’ Tier 1 program has continued to experience massive team and individual success.
- The club’s Tier 1 teams are thriving on the national level. The 18U, 16U and 14U teams won Pacific District championships and advanced to the USA Hockey Nationals in 2019. The club has 10 Tier 1 Nationals qualifiers from 2015-19, along with the 11 Tier 1 CAHA titles in that span. The 16U and 18U teams qualified for the top playoff bracket in the Tier 1 Elite League’s well scouted playoffs for the fourth seasons in a row in 2019. The 16Us won the 2018 regular-season title.
- The club’s reputation for preparing players for college also grew. The Jr. Ducks have had 22 players make NCAA Division I college commitments in the past six seasons, and there are more than 40 former Jr. Ducks playing junior hockey, including several in the Tier I USHL and WHL.
- The club also had two homegrown players selected in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft in June 2019. Defenseman Cam York, who is a freshman at Michigan, was taken 14th overall by Philadelphia, making him the highest drafted California-born and –trained player ever. Longtime teammate Ryan Johnson, a freshman at Minnesota, was selected 31st overall by the Buffalo Sabres. That gave the club three NHL picks in the past two seasons. In addition, York represented Team USA at the World Junior Championships in January, while Johnson helped Sioux Falls win the USHL’s Clark Cup last June.
