Alex brings more than a decade of coaching experience, including 11 seasons at all levels with the Jr. Ducks, after a lengthy pro hockey career. Alex utilizes a five-point approach to player development: Technical (skills technique, first touch, passing, shooting, 1v1 moves), Tactical (lineups, positional roles, team identity), Physical (speed, strength, power, agility, conditioning, balance), Mental (confidence, resilience, ability to overcome adversity) and Social (teamwork, support and motivation for others).

Alex played more than 15 years of professional hockey, including with the NHL's St. Louis Blues (who drafted him in 1993) and the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the IHL. He played major junior in the Western Hockey League, and he has competed internationally several times, including for the USSR junior team and the Ukrainian National Team in the World Cup, among others.

He has scouted for the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL since 2019.
